This issue received more press during 2009 with a statement from the Government that any boat with a cruising permit in the Bahamas would not be subject to paying duty if bringing in parts for replacement or repair. There is a small stamp tax that is similar to a sales tax in the USA. However, friends of ours with a transmission problem on their sail boat this summer only paid the shipping fee for the emergency replacement.
