Boat Theft Alert !! Exumas and Nassau
Just in from our friend cruising in Exumas.
These past few days and weeks have seen several more thefts of Center Console boats in the Bahamas.
This morning, April 6, at approximately 4:00 a.m. while anchored off of the island of Highborne Cay, a large yacht “Relentless” had their 28’ Intrepid stolen from behind their large yacht. It had Twin Yamahas. At the same time, inside the marina at Highborne Cay, a 33’ Regulator with twin Yamahas was also stolen. The name of that boat was “Freak Show”. It is a light green colored boat with a big picture of a clown on the side of the hull with the name Freak Show.
Highborne officials claim this mornings theft was the first one from the marina in 11 years.
However, throughout Nassau, as well as Abacos, Center consoles are being stolen DAILY !!! The majority of these thefts are for those boats with Yamahas, since the thieves have all the keys for Yamahas.
HOWEVER, last week, another in Nassau, a 30’ Tender with Twin Mercury 250 HP engines, was almost stolen. Once again at around 4:00 a.m. they punched out our ignition keys and attempted to HOT WIRE and steal our tender. They were NOT able to start the Port motor, so we were lucky to still have it. A couple of nights later, another boat was stolen only a few slips away at Yacht Haven Marina. It was a large 35’ + twin console with twin Yamahas as well.
The thieves are now getting desparate and are NOT just stealing Yamahas anymore, seems like anything goes now !!
You can read the article in the Nassau Guardian about the fact that the boat belonging to the Prime Minister of the Bahamas was also stolen, and used in the theft of another
boat !! You know it’s bad when they steal the Prime Minister’s own boat, and then use it during another crime !!

Boat thefts
We lost a 31 ft. Grady White center console to thieves in November 2007. It turned up about 70 days later with over 285 hours added to the 250 Yamaha engines. Stripped of course, and trashed. A sad story.
18' Mako stolen recently
18' mako with single engine, stolen from Paradise island. approx 9/2/09. found south side of island of new providence,
minus engine, elctronics and all wiring... half sunk... nothing left but bare hull.
